If you use Firefox, then you can easily solve this problem with these two Firefox extensions. Both serve the same purpose: Making websites easier to read, by removing distractions and allowing you to focus on the content instead. Each one displays the website in a different style, and they have different options. I installed both and use them alternately (and regularly).

The first extension is called “Readability”, and is found here. The other is called “Firefox Reader”, and is located here.

Using is as easy as clicking a button, so I’m sure you’ll be able to manage without my help

Firefox Extensions To Make Web Pages More Eye Friendly

After a search at Google, I found the problem, and the way to fix it: Looks like Ubuntu had decided to rename the user-agent into “Shiretoko” which is the codename of firefox 3.5, instead of “firefox”.

Because of the new user-agent name, Facebook does not recognize the browser as firefox, and thus disables some features that are browser dependent.

In order to fix the problem:

1. In the URI bar (that’s the place where you type the URLs of websites you want to visit), type “about:config” (without the double quotes).

2. Click the funny button “I’ll be carefull, I promise”.

3. Now look for “general.useragent.extra.firefox”, right click it, and choose “Modify”.

4. Instead of “Shiretoko”, type “Firefox”. (e.g. if you had “Shiretoko/3.5.4pre” it should become “Firefox/3.5.4pre”.

That’s it, now the world should be a better place

Fix Facebook Chat in Firefox 3.5 (Shiretoko) in Ubuntu

This can be annoying if you’re trying to write code in a textarea (in codepad for example).

Somebody had a solution for this already: Tabinta (Tab In TextArea), a firefox add-on which allows you to insert tab in a text area with no effort.

The add-on is placed here.

After you install it, you need to restart firefox.  Then go to Tools -> Add-ons. Look for “Tab in Textare” and hit “preferences” . In the box appears, assign a key for inserting tabs in textareas (I assigned the TAB key itself).

That’s it, now your life are more beautiful

Firefox Add-On to Easily Insert Tabs in Textareas

This might be annoying if you don’t want to share every page you bookmark with the world, but you want to share only specific pages instead – you might want to do this, for example, for sharing only high-quality pages instead of every “maybe interesting” page.

Anyway, in order to change the default behavior, so the “do not checkbox” is selected by default, do the following:

In the URI type

about:config

Click the funny button “I’ll be careful, I promise!”.

Right click anywhere in the page, and select: New -> Integer.

As the preference name enter this:

extensions.ybookmarks@yahoo.sharemode

And as the value, insert 1.

That’s it, try now to bookmark a new page and you should find the checkbox selected
